Join us in welcoming a group of young people from Palestine visiting various parts of the UK in October 2024. This is part of CADFA’s Building Hope project, in which CADFA (based in Camden/Islington is working with groups in Pendle, Blackburn, Bradford, Derby, Birmingham, Hackney, Newham, Islington and Cornwall.
The project creates opportunities for young people from the UK and Palestine to meet and learn about each other’s lives, take part in exciting activities including sports, art, video. There will be visits to schools, youth centres and community centres and community welcome meetings in different parts of the country.
That’s amazing, how do you do that at this terrible time in the world and in Palestine in particular?
We were worried too, but we managed to do a very positive youth visit from Palestine in February-March – we will look after them very carefully – and keep our eyes and ears open. At the time of writing, this is going ahead.
Who is it organised by?
CADFA. This is part of our Building Hope project through which we work with partners across the country to bring Palestinian voices to different parts of the country.
Have you done this before?
Yes, dozens of times since 2006, which was our first youth visit. We have organised many other visits too and the first general visit from Palestine was in 2005. We have organised many themed and general visits to Palestine too, and taken hundreds of people in both directions.
There is a report of the most recent youth visit (Feb-March 2024) here.
Why do you do this?
We are a human rights charity that works to raise awareness of the human rights situation in Palestine, and so we organise positive projects that bring together people from both countries.
How old are the young people? Where are they from ?
The young people are aged 13 to 16 and come from different parts of the West Bank.
How were they chosen?
They were part of a project that we supported in Palestine called Beyond the Checkpoints.
How is this visit funded?
Entirely through the fundraising efforts of our members, friends and partners – We don’t have external funding for this project.
