At the end of November/ beginning of December, CADFA as a partner to the Higher Council of Youth and Sports helped to build an International Youth Camp in Palestine. Twenty-six CADFA visitors formed the UK part of the camp based in Jericho which totalled over 200; there were visitors from 17 countries as wide-apart as Argentina, India, South Africa, Finland, Canada, Sri Lanka and many more. The group always remembered those who hadn’t made it: Israeli border guards turned back whole delegations from some countries and individuals from some others, and did not give people from Gaza the chance to travel to join.
The event was in November to coincide with the International Day of Solidarity with the Palestinian People on 29th. On the right is a picture of a solidarity stand in the middle of Jericho – the air full of chants from across the world in support of Palestinian rights – great to hear these in Hindi, Spanish, Arabic and others.
CADFA’s role as partner was to help with leader-training and the design of the project. Nandita Dowson, Director of CADFA, spoke at the opening ceremony (see article here), and we were pleased also to welcome Brendan McSharry from the British Council to speak at the closing ceremony. Following the International Camp, a day in Abu Dis for our CADFA visitors gave them a flavour of CADFA’s own visits – The picture is a wonderful ‘maklubeh’ by Im Fayez.
