Israel’
s takeover of Palestine (in parts, first 78% of historic Palestine, then occupying and building on the rest) changed the whole nature of Palestinian society. Historic Palestine included important cities, but many worked on the land, and gradually this land has been lost and employment in agriculture become rarer; hundreds of thousands of people have shifted their employment to manual work, including (for lack of other opportunities) in Israel and on settlements.
