Shireen Abu Akleh Place

August 28 @ 6:30 pm - 8:30 pm

POSTPONED TILL AFTER THE GENERAL ELECTION
We have asked Camden Council to name the area at the junction of Leighton Road and Kentish Town Road after Shireen Abu Akleh, famous Palestinian journalist who was shot two years ago by an Israeli sniper. Shireen was so alive that it was hard to imagine that this could happen – and it got worse when the Israelis also attacked her funeral parade. Shireen will never be forgotten.
But it got worse again with Israel’s war on Gaza. During this onslaught, Israel has seemed to target journalists in particular, killing to date around 150 journalists and of course reducing the amount of news available about what they are doing there.
We have asked Camden Council to support a ceasefire – to no answer. And we have had no answer from them about the naming for Shireen. We are therefore enlisting the help of Camden’s Ceasefire Mayor* (elected at the Ceasefire Council outside Camden Town Hall on 15th May) to do a (grassroots) naming ceremony. We will have speakers from Camden and from Palestine and would appreciate your support.
